I would buy this lens if it was designed by Viltrox in black version as white to me doesn't look professional enough.
Amazing images and price is awesome, but please make them with filter threads and black version would be nice!
The Viltrox Epic anamorphic lens set lives up to their great online reviews. Image character is easy to control, flare and bokeh never need be too dominant. Focus torque is now improved too and the lens build quality is high. I look forward to using these lenses creatively for many years to come.
Over the years I’ve had so many opportunities on so many different lenses, each with their own characteristics and each with their own uniqueness… in a week I’ve filmed with the lenses 4 times, absolutely in love with the depth and that the flair isn’t so blue, it’s delicate when controlled. But the winning factor, shoot on Red wide open and you see the true beauty…
I have to say, i am impressed. Superb overall image quality, nice bokeh (even with some nice oval charactaristics especially for a 1.33x !), good sharpness across the frame, very little to no chromatic aberrations and focus breating, beautiful focus roll-off as well as good usability and weight!
And all of that for a reasonable price in my opinion.
There are, however, three minor things i would wish for you to do and this set would be an instant buy for me:
1. The option to choose a set of lenses with metric focus marks.
2. The option to get them as a native E-mount option although i dont really mind using an adapter (but maybe one would get a slightly better image quality without an adapter due to a shorter flange distance?)
3. The option to choose a black version as i simply prefer that look (although this is not really a deal breaker for me)
An additional macro and an additional tele as well as an ultrawide options would round this set of really nice. If that were to happen, i would hands down shoot all my commercials as well as short films and documentarys with them. But lets wait, what viltrox has to say to that down the line ;)
Apart from that, keep up the good work viltrox & cheers to your engineering apartment for their fabulous work!
Greetings from germany :)
